This is the start of blogging about my adventures in Melbourne! I visited Healesville Sanctuary and a little bit of Yarra Valley yesterday.
It is definitely an amazing area to visit if you are in Melbourne, Victoria and also i love animals so i'm biased to the idea of learning and watching their daily routine.
The drive there was beautiful and calming and smooth. There were many farms along the drive, and we could enjoy watching the lambs, cows, alpacas and horses going about their daily life. The road was pretty straightforward and best of all, it was only an hour drive from the city. Along the way, there were many farms, wineries and fresh foods to visit and buy their products.
We arrived in Healesville Sanctuary around 10.00am. It was a pretty great time as it opens at 9am. There were many animals at the Sanctuary and you could see them pretty well in most of their enclosures. There were koalas, kangaroos, many birds, squirrels, possums, snakes, lizards, tasmanian devil, wombats, emus (We actually saw two of them having a "hanky panky" haha) , owls and many more. Also, there were two shows, one about the platypus and one about birds! Definitely go for them, especially the bird one! I was just sitting there in awe of the birds flying over our heads. Oh, and I believe that they allow you to get up close to the kangaroos, birds and other animals to feed them if you pay a little bit more for a close up encounter. I really enjoyed the sanctuary, as it was pretty chill just walking around and learning more about the wildlife.
Alright, now for the juice! here are the top 5 highlights of the trip!
1. Seeing the Koalas!
2. I love the "owls" :)
3. Spirits of the Sky
4. Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery
The chocolaterie is a short drive away from Healesville. It closes at 5pm though so get there early! We had the brownie there and it was pretty damn good. It was $7 for a rather big brownie with vanilla ice cream and pure chocolate dip. There were many tourist around so it was rather noisy but no complains! There were many chocolate gifts that you could buy there. I didn't get any cause I'm a poor university student but maybe next time when i feel like indulging in some chocolate! You could see the workers making chocolate through a glass window as well. It was a beautifully decorated place, and some great deserts there. OH and there are some good instagram shots that you can get there!
5. Yarra Valley Dairy
The ambience of the store is really calming. It's the kind of place you go on a lazy sunday afternoon and enjoy some peace and quiet near nature. They had a little cafe for food and sold fresh dairy products. They had some neat cooking items as well. The ambience was 10/10 and also outside the shop, there are more instagram photos you could take!
And that's it for my 1st episode of Let's go sessions!
RECOMMENDATION : 4/5! I would definitely recommend this to families, friends who will be in Melbourne for a long time and would like to see something more other than the usual attractions. It's a great day trip for anyone and anyone who loves animals, food and nature. It is very convenient as well. COME EVERYONE! I would want to visit the wineries and fruit farms in future though.
Here are more photos that i am proud of. I borrowed a DSLR, and it was my first time actually using one so I was excited taking photos.
Cheers, i hope this helps! Signing out, Joy xx
